Public Education

Mr. H20 Says “Protect and Conserve Norman’s Water,

Our Most Valuable Natural Resource.”

The City of Norman experiences periodic problems with pesticides entering the sewer system that cannot be adequately treated at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Diazinon in particular has been identified as causing toxicity in the effluent of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. As a result the EPA requires that we use public education as a way to reduce the amount entering the system.

Listed below are various educational materials available to assist citizens in understanding the different ways their actions can impact the quality of our water and how they can help protect our water.

If you would like a copy of any of this material you may either come by the Industrial Pretreatment office of the Wastewater Treatment Division at 3500 S. Jenkins or call 292-9731 and request that we mail it to you.

Please remember that pesticides are poisons and when used improperly they can be dangerous to both you and your environment. Always read and follow the directions provided with these products.

NEVER pour pesticides down ANY drain.

Material available by visiting our office, through the mail or you can click on the titles underlined and in blue.

Posters

Posters are available in three different grade levels. Kindergarten through second grades, third through fifth grades, and sixth through eighth grades. The K-2 poster is a black and white version for coloring. The other two posters are in color and have exercises on the back that are designed to help children develop a better understanding of the topic covered by the poster. We have somewhat limited copies available and when they are gone we will not be able to get any more.
