Profile for Dave Spaulding

Councilmember Dave Spaulding is a third generation resident of Norman and a lifetime resident of Ward 5. He and his brothers were raised on a family homestead and he still lives nearby. Dave is a graduate of Life Christian School (“LCS”) and has been an entrepreneur and small business owner his entire life.

Dave began his community involvement with the Cleveland County Republican Lunch Club. From there he has become more involved with local and state government and various organizations that represent the Norman and Cleveland County community. As a small business owner, Dave is an advocate for the business owner and strongly believes that Norman needs to move to the forefront of our state as a business friendly city and place for people to live.

Dave believes that our country is a place that was founded on limited government and that individuals and entrepreneurs should have logical and common sense regulations that give opportunity to start more businesses and to enjoy the fruits of their labors and successes. Dave believes in strong family values and has a devotion to public service.

Ward 5 consists of mostly rural area and covers the largest land mass of all the wards in Norman. The Ward starts at approximately 36th Avenue excluding a small section between Alameda and Lindsey where the western boundary is 48th Avenue S.E..  It continues east to the far side of Lake Thunderbird and over to Little Axe.  A small section of the southern Boundary is Highway 9 and Classen and all extends south to the City Limits.  Dave believes he represents the rural community and the values and interests inherent to country living. Dave recognizes that there needs to be balance and believes he can help the council in merging those country living values with the views and interests of those living in more populated areas.

Dave credits his success and ability to give to the community to his faith and his family. Dave is married and is the proud father of three little girls. In his free time, Dave likes to spend time with his family in outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and kayaking. Dave looks forward to working to make Norman a place that his entire family continues to call home.

Councilmember Spaulding serves on the Council Oversight Committee and Business and Community Affairs Committee. He also serves as Council's representative to the Board of Trustees for the City of Norman Retirement System.
