Job Description
Duties:
Prepares and serves subpoenas for all cases set for trial. Processes or checks in all defendants in court sessions. Allows defendants an opportunity to speak with the prosecuting City Attorney. Maintains quiet and peace in the courtroom. Maintains an atmosphere in the courtroom conducive to efficient courtroom proceedings. Processes and checks in witnesses. Supervises defendants/prisoners in making telephone calls. Prepares the courtroom and Judge’s Chambers before court sessions. Assists Court Clerk and court staff in performing their duties. Performs related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
Works in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, and dirt.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university. Currently attending law school is preferred.
Knowledge:
Courtroom proceedings and practices. Oral and written communication.
Skills:
Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimum direction. Analytical abilities are required to interpret data, and correct or determine the cause of discrepancies. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff.
License and/or Certification:
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Mental & Physical:
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to citizens requiring assistance. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lb.) 5-10% of work time.
Additional Information:
Selected applicant must pass drug screen and background investigation.
Work Period: 15 hours a week maximum. Approximately 10 hours in the courtroom on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons and 5 hours serving processes.
