Well your Combat Challenge Team arrived safely in Ottawa, Canada last week to find they would compete against some 700 competitors representing 131 fire departments, 31 states, 7 provinces as well as England, Germany, and Italy. I might also point out that unlike some of their previous meets, all of these competitors have already demonstrated their ability to go “Sub-2” (that’s combat lingo for under 2 minutes), so the competition was sure to be fierce! November 4-6 was used to narrow the field of play from 131 to 64 meaning that 67 teams would not make the cut to compete for the World Title. Guess what, your Norman team not only made the cut, but were seeded 22 out of the 64 successful teams! Their first match-up would be with the 43rd seeded team from Fort Meade, FL, and they defeated them by a margin of 6 seconds, 1:28 to 1:32. Next up would be the 11th seeded team of El Paso, TX, where unfortunately they were defeated 1:22 to 1:24, a margin of only 2 seconds, but this would be a new personal best for the team and only 13 teams would post a better time during the entire event. So as the year for competition comes to an end I think it’s safe to say that we will probably see these guys back on the “court” next year with higher enthusiasm for even greater achievements in the combat circuit, although the goals achieved this year were with out a doubt, nothing less than OUTSTANDING!!!! Just a side note, although Jack Ingram did "run" for the team, he chose not to compete in the individual competition due to injuring his back a couple of weeks before going to Canada, but he did say that he would be back next year.
